Who sees the AWARE Report?
The AWARE report is an online form that generates an email to the following offices: Dean of Students, Counseling and Psychological Services, Health and Wellness, Residence Life, Student Conduct and the Office for Equal Opportunity.
What happens when a student is reported?
All submitted AWARE reports are reviewed by the staff receiving the report. A representative from the Office of the Dean of Students will contact the reporter (if they provide their contact information) to gather additional information, consult about the situation and determine next steps. The goal of this conversation is to determine the best way to help connect the student with resources that can support their success without causing additional stress for the student.
Will the reported student be told a report was submitted?
In most case, no. Reported students will not be informed of the AWARE report unless the reporter tells the student or it is decided upon as part of the follow up plan.
In what types of situations would a reported student be told about the AWARE report?
The following situations may result in the student of concern being informed of a report:
- The student may be informed of the AWARE report by the reporter who has a concern for the student
- If the report shares information regarding Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Misconduct or Discrimination the student may receive an informational outreach from the Office for Equal Opportunity
- If the report shares information regarding an alleged violation of the Student Standards of Conduct the Office of Student Conduct may reach to the student or the reporter seeking additional information
- If the Office of the Dean of Students is unable to establish a method for helping the student connect with resources discreetly, an outreach email may be sent to the student offering to connect with them. The email from the Dean of Students office will not share any information regarding the AWARE report or the name of the person who shared the concern. The student is not obligated to meet with the Office of the Dean of Students following the outreach.
Do I have to provide my name to submit and AWARE report?
No, but it may make it more difficult for us to assist the student if we do not have someone who is connected with the student to consult with.
Will the student be informed that I submitted an AWARE report about them?
It is not the practice of the AWARE Network to disclose information regarding AWARE reports or the people who submit them to students of concern. However, any information submitted on an AWARE report is subject to public records request laws and guidelines. Student names are redacted from public records responses for privacy reasons.
